So you were doing push-ups with no added weight or using resistance bands and you could only do 5 before you maxed out? What's your age/height/weight?

I could do more but I really, really, really, let myself loose during theses 5 years. I'm 25 yrs old/1,80 m/178 lbs.

I remember back when I was in the Army, I used to do crunches all the time. Could do them for 8 minutes straight. I timed it once. sigh. but that was 20 pounds ago

I've gained 43 pounds in 5 years...this is too much and I feel it now...

Wait what? Are you 178lbs now? or was that 43lbs ago (i.e. you're 221lbs now)?

I'm 178 lbs now. Back then I was around 135 lbs and it was my healthy weight.

If I was 178 pounds I'd be stoked. I'm 5'8", I was 185 in high school, gained a bunch of weight in college. I got back to 185 once, but only by being very sick (essentially anorexic). Gained it back, then got back down to 220. I've hit a total wall, nothing I do works, I feel like I'm in pretty decent shape but the weight won't go away.

Basically what I'm saying is I hate you lightweight people.

I don't even know if I can go back to my normal weight. I used to be able to eat like a pig and not gain weight. The tables have turned. The best thing we can do is hit our healthy weight with exercise. No funky diets. I'm trying to eat 4 times a day but reduce the amount I eat and eat a big breakfast, medium diner, medium supper and end with a small snack an hour or 2 before bed.

I'll start this off by saying that I'm not a doctor so my opinion doesn't mean shit. That being said in my opinion 135lbs for someone who's 1.8m tall is a borderline unhealthy weight... unless you're an olympic marathon runner or something like that. I'm 1.8m tall and weigh 175lb. I can imagine weighing 5-10lb less... but 40lb less? I'd be a skeleton!

For what it's worth I don't go to the gym, I play soccer once a week and do some yard work, that's the extent of my physical activity. I eat a regular, fairly balanced diet. Could I be in better shape? Sure, but I don't have a gut or anything like that. I have a friend who goes to the gym pretty much every day and he told me that a benchmark for a guy who is in decent physical condition is to do 100 push-ups in 4 minutes. I was able to do it.

Yeah, I'm trying to just be healthy, I've given up on losing weight.

I've cut significant portions of carbs out of my diet and eat a lot less fat and a lot more fruit. I just like food too much, and life is to short to strictly diet. I just wish my stable weight would be about 40 pounds lower.

I did the test back in the days with that weight. It was determined that I was on my healthy weight when I was 17-20. I do agree that now it would probably be a higher weight.

Wait, what training program?

Also, don't knock yourself too much about how little you can do right now. First time I hit the bench press after a few years of letting myself go, I couldn't press 50lbs. I laughed at myself so hard and then took it slow but sure. So keep at it. You're doing more than many are :)

I don't knock on myself, but it's crazy at how much bad I became. This is the program I'm using http://hundredpushups.com/index.html#sth…
